Artist Statement & Bio
I am taken in by the endlessly fascinating natural world around me and by those special moments of quiet inspiration. Whether it be the way light bathes its natural surroundings or a person caught in a daydream, all of it is asking to be depicted in a poetic way. Maybe it’s the movement of the leaves and petals, maybe it’s a glance or a gesture – all of it endlessly fascinates my mind’s eye. I work across different water and oil media and in some pieces like to combine materials such as watercolors, gouache, and pastels for added effects.
A lot of my art grows out of visits to our local farmer’s market where a plethora of flowers, fruits, and vegetables call out to be smelled, touched, and tasted. I paint every spark of interest in the repeated encounter with my subject and try to convey the beauty and pleasure of that interaction.
