Artist Statement & Bio

I am taken in by the endlessly fascinating natural world around me and by those special moments of quiet inspiration. Whether it be the way light bathes its natural surroundings or a person caught in a daydream, all of it is asking to be depicted in a poetic way. Maybe it’s the movement of the leaves and petals, maybe it’s a glance or a gesture – all of it endlessly fascinates my mind’s eye. I work across different water and oil media and in some pieces like to combine materials such as watercolors, gouache, and pastels for added effects.

A lot of my work grows out of visits to our local farmer’s market where a plethora of flowers, fruits, and vegetables call out to be smelled, touched, and tasted. I paint every spark of interest in the repeated encounter with my subject and try to convey the beauty and pleasure of that interaction. 

Many people remark on how peaceful my art makes them feel. I am happy to share that essence of serenity I also experience while creating each piece.
